SEND Roles

Disablility doesn’t mean inability

Working with students who have special education needs and disabilities is a hugely rewarding job.

You get the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with the students and have a real impact on their lives during and outside of school. A supply teacher or support role is a great way to enter the SEND sector without committing to a permanent role.

No previous teaching experience is required but if you’re an enthusiastic and committed individual who has previously worked in care role (perhaps in a residential care home or even a prison) then you could be the perfect candidate for a Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Support role.

Drama graduates and those with knowledge of alternative communication methods, such as British Sign Language (BSL), Makaton or Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) are also highly sought after in this sector.
